People generally plan vacations months in advance. They pour over sites, Pinterest boards, Instagram shots of people they don’t even know, fantasizing about what their vacation will be like. They plan what they’ll pack and the activities they’ll participate in at their destination. A hotel blog is one of the easiest ways to become part of that fantasy, but that’s not the only reason you need one. Here are a few others:
3 Reasons for a Hotel Blog
Share Stories
Hotels are the source of so many stories and the backdrop for beautiful times. Just look at all the television shows and movies set in hotels. A blog helps you capture these stories and share them with the world. It tells travelers a lot more about their stay than mere rates and a list of amenities can.
Play Up Activities
Listing your amenities and activities is nice but nothing sells them quite the same than seeing them and seeing people who enjoy them. Blogs don’t have to be written. Take a video of visitors playing a round of golf at your golf course or follow your activities director and create a “day in the life” post. Get creative. People will respond.
Showcase Upcoming Events
A calendar tells people what’s available during their stay but detailed posts about how much people enjoy the events are even better. Write a blog post about the seasons at your hotel or talk about your upcoming culinary events in a way that makes readers’ mouths water. Don’t forget to place a call-to-action at the bottom where they can sign up or get more information.
Finally, if you establish a blog and people leave comments for you, you have just created an additional source for testimonials. If someone posts a compliment, thank them publicly, and then if possible contact them privately to ask if you can use their comment in your marketing collaterals. Often they will agree and it’s a lot easier than searching through comment cards.
Your hotel blog is an opportunity to draw visitors to your website in, get them excited about their trip, or help them make a decision about where to stay. Posts don’t have to be meaty, educational monologues. Focus on the fun. Bring a stay to life for people hundreds of miles away from you. Build a following on social media. Blogging and social media can save you thousands of dollars on advertising or help you extend your reach without increasing your spend.
