Sometimes I feel weird referring to some businesses as “small business.” Yes, these companies employ under 250 people but there is nothing small about the hours they work, the impression they make on their customers, the dedication they show to their profession, or their employees’ interest in going above and beyond.
“Small” always feels like a bit of a slight, like we’re minimizing what these amazing people do.
At ThinkQuik, we’re very involved with our local chamber. As part of that involvement, I’ve had the opportunity to work very closely with a number of local small business owners. I have made lasting friendships with this hardworking bunch and that’s why during National Small Business Week, I want to give them all a shout-out and a note of thanks for all they do.
We Love Small Business Because They…
- love their community and give back to it through donations to local PTAS and other nonprofits, sponsoring sports teams, and tournaments. They know that community support and business are a reciprocal relationship and one that needs to be nurtured.
- go the extra mile to make it right. Things happen, but a business owner is more agile in their response. They can, and do, make sure the customer is satisfied.
- give of their time in leadership roles throughout the community.
- care about referrals.
- see their employees as a family and know their success is based on them as well.
- enjoy seeing the delight on customers’ faces and are around to do so.
- care about legislative changes and other things that could negatively affect the community.
- know their product or service better than anyone else. They are specialists and they make it special.
- take the time to help customers understand what they need to know to make an educated buying decision.
- are the lifeblood, grit, sweat, and backbone of what makes our neighborhood different from any other. Each small business does this in its community across the country.
Happy National Small Business Week. You deserve it!
If you’re not a small business owner, celebrate by patronizing a small business this week and every week.
