High school football. college football. the NFL.
Fall is not just any season; it’s football season. And there are lots of ways businesses can use football to draw in customers. We have tons of swag ideas for football-themed giveaways for you to consider.
Of course, the obvious: Footballs! We have footballs of all shapes and sizes. Stress relief footballs, blow up footballs, and regular (but probably not regulation) sized footballs your clients and customers can toss around in the backyard.
Think about items that can also be used at a football game. Blankets, seat backs, hats – depending on where you are located either beanie hats to stay warm or baseball caps, jerseys in your local school’s colors, small wristlets since many stadiums might not allow large bags, pom poms to cheer on the home team, hand clappers, and travel water bottles are all great options.
Football-Themed Events for Your Business
Now that you have awesome football swag ideas, you need a football-themed event to go along with it.
Hosting an event is a great way to draw football-loving customers into your business. Here are some ideas:
Tailgates
Host a tailgate before home games with food, prizes (your football-themed giveaway items!), and specials on merchandise. You can even team up with businesses nearby to host a Sidewalk Tailgate. It is a great way to promote community and make a few sales before the games.
Watch Party
If your home team is playing away, host a watch party, or play it over the radio for customers. This is also a good choice for big rivalry games that are out of town. Watch parties work well for restaurants and bars, but even if that’s not your business there’s no reason why you couldn’t host a watch party.
Advertise that you are playing the game so that football fans can watch even if they aren’t at home. A win-win for everyone!
Booth
Attend the local football game and set up a booth but make sure it is okay with the school first! If they turn you down, look into other ways you can work together. Sponsorships or volunteering may provide you access that they weren’t willing to entertain otherwise.
Contests/Discounts
Have a drawing by partnering with the school in town to give away an entire football experience or basket. This also works if you have a big NFL team nearby. You can create a basket with tickets to the game and team merchandise. Patrons can either buy raffle tickets or you can give tickets based on the dollar amount they spend in your store.
Another way to tie your business into the game is to offer a discount on products or services if the team gets a designated number of touchdowns in one game. Ask if the school will mention it at the game.
Branding
Sell local school-inspired goods, so your customers can support the local team. From clothing to mugs to even leashes and collars for pets, selling school merchandise is another great way to bring people in the door. However, make sure you understand licensing agreements before selling.
Fundraisers and Sponsorships
Partner with the football team to do a fundraiser. Whether it is letting them use your parking lot to wash cars, or giving a percentage of sales on a certain day to the team, there are lots of ways to help the football team raise funds.
As we mentioned earlier, another way to do this is to be a sponsor of the local team. They often have banner opportunities and other highly visible spots that may be ideal for you if the school community fits your target audience.
If your town has football fever, it’s time you catch it too. Encourage people to pick up your football swag when they shop or bring it to your next event. Take advantage of the season by promoting your business with football-inspired giveaways and specials!
