I bet you never thought that promotional products would make New York’s Fashion Week runway, but they did! Or at least wearable tech did.
Smart clothing and wearable tech (like sensor-packed accessories) hit the runway at the world-renowned fashion event in February.
Intel partnered with Chromat to create glowing dresses (think glow stick-inspired apparel that doesn’t lose its glow after a few hours) and sportswear.
The other really cool thing spotted at the show were pins with unicorn emojis. They weren’t just awesome fashion accessories. These unicorns were just as magical as their mythical inspiration. They’re fitted with accelerometers and gyroscopes. They also tracked activity, direction, and location. This sounds like something more out of a James Bond movie than a typical fashion show but way cool and because they are stylish pins no one knows you’re tracking your steps!
FitBit also announced changing up its offerings slightly to incorporate a much more chic urban look to its popular health tracker. The new designs will include premium bands with metal accents as well as custom designs.
If you’ve ever gotten bored of the clothes in your closet, you know how important it is to change it up. Fashion designers are listening and the show also saw some wearable emojis and GIFS on apparel (images like Donald Trump’s sad face and Angry Cat) that were controlled by sensors in the models’ headgear. The coolest part of all? The fashion statement changes based on the wearer’s emotions. By monitoring things like body temperature, it adjusts the image accordingly. Fun!
When Will We See These Promotional Products?
Like most Fashion Week designs, it will probably be a while before any of them are available through us but they give you an idea of where marketing can be headed and what can get you noticed. Just between you and me, I’m looking forward to the fashionable pedometer. I’d like one in a flip-flop pin design. Wouldn’t that be cool?
