One way to host a memorable event is by having a budget so large you can cater to every whim of every attendee. But for most of us that’s simply not feasible. Most of us have to turn to other means.
Ways to Host a Memorable Event
Hosting a memorable event is about creating an experience for people. Ideally, they will feel more valued and appreciated because of what you did “for them.” Here are a few ways to create that personalized experience.
Use a theme but instead of just using that theme in the invitations and the decor, carry it through to your event’s website or landing page, the emails you use, food you serve, and even out the door. Make people feel the theme the moment they drive up.
Lighting. Lighting sets the mood and makes everything more or less appealing. White Christmas lights, candle light, roaring fires — all of these add to an experience. Don’t forget to design the lighting to match the mood you are trying to create.
Giveaways. Guests should never go home empty-handed but little doohickeys that will be tossed the first time they pass a trashcan aren’t the solution either. Instead, give out promotional items that suit the demographic of your event attendees. A women’s luncheon would give away a very different item than a fan appreciation day at the ballpark. Give attendees something unique, usable, or fun. Bonus if it’s all three.
Staff. People remember how they’re treated long after they remember the taste of the food. Make sure your staff or volunteers are trained to provide excellent service at all times in every position. For instance, no one should simply refer a guest to someone else, they should see that the guest’s needs are met. When you employ excellent staff, no one will want to leave.
There are so many other ways to create memorable experiences. We haven’t even touched on social media at events and that’s an incredible opportunity to make your event stand out. So incredible, that social media at events will be our next topic on this blog. Stay tuned for next Tuesday’s post.
