Finding the Perfect Promotional Item for an Event
- What are you trying to accomplish with this item? Convince people to buy? Get more members? Come work for your company? Stay top-of-mind? Talk about you? Thank current customers?
- Who is your target in this promotion? Age? Gender? Income? Occupation?
- What is the event and where is it held? Is there a theme?
- Does the event target a particular industry?
- Will you be selling to people in different stages of the buying cycle at this event or are you targeting only one type of person (i.e., current customers)?
- If you’ve attended this event in the past, what have your competitors (or other vendors) given away?
- How much time do you have before the promotional products are needed? Are you carrying the items or are we shipping it directly?
- How would you describe your company? What do you do? What’s your culture? Your brand? Your corporate personality?
- Do you have a short sales cycle or a long one?
Notice what we don’t ask – what’s your budget? The reason for this is not that we don’t care. We will get around to that question after we flesh out all the rest because it’s secondary. Goals and brand are much more important. We have thousands of items in every budget so that’s the last thing we address.
