I know, if you’re still reeling from pumpkin hitting the stores September 1st, you’re really not ready to hear that the holidays are just around the corner. But they are and you can’t ignore them. Okay, you can but you don’t want to. It’s not only a top time of consumer spending but it’s also time to thank those who have helped make your business so successful — your clients, your vendors, and your employees.
Here are a few things you can do to improve marketing around the holidays:
Look at the Calendar
Drop everything now and do this. Do it for the remainder of the year and 2017. Plot out how you’d like to market during the holidays and do it now. This includes posts, campaigns, social media, and promotional items. You’ll save yourself a lot of headache next year.
Assess Your Needs
Look at inventory. Place orders for customers. As well as order appreciation gifts now.
As in it’s almost October!!! Go now. Call now. Get on the Interwebs now!
Have Fun with Posts
People get nostalgic during the holidays and it’s a great time to engage your audience. Although people are busy, many of them have holiday on the brain and they’d rather interact with you on social media than get the task at hand done. Ask them questions like how they celebrate, whether they prefer pumpkin pie or pecan, and what their favorite parts of the holidays are. These questions may not feel business-oriented but they do go a long way in growing a relationship.
Plan a Social Media Contest
If you’re a merchant there are a lot of great contests you can hold over the holidays. Check out these ideas.
Deck Out Your Website
Websites are made to be changed up. Do something festive or funny (love those Elf Yourself videos). Hang a holiday card or reminder/countdown clock of how many days left to order for Christmas delivery.
Finally, there’s something about the holidays that makes me want to spread cheer. Do you agree?
Look for ways your company can help someone less fortunate or give employees some time off to volunteer at their favorite cause. If that’s out of the question, just do something that makes people feel good and share an inspirational story. We need a lot more of that.
