High-End Promotional Products: Do You Need Them?

By Denise Macleod on October 20, 2015 0

High-End Promotional Products: Do You Need Them?

High-end promotional products are generally considered anything costing over $25. Before deciding whether using them would help you sell more products or services, you would be wise to consider the following:

Who are you giving it to?

  • If it’s going to a customer to thank her for her business, how much did she buy and is there the opportunity for repeat business or additional orders?

  • If it’s for an employee to thank him for service, is this a milestone anniversary or did he land a big sale? How often will he be eligible for something of this magnitude?

  • If it’s an incentive to purchase, how much is your average purchase and what’s your repeat business percentage?

  • If it’s for a product launch, what are you expecting the sales to be?

Do High-End Promotional Products Influence Feelings about the Giving Company

In a recent study conducted by the Promotional Products Association International, they found that people receiving a promotional product that they believed to be valued at over $25:

44% felt more receptive towards the company who gave it to them

27% felt significantly more receptive based on the gift

27% felt no reaction either way towards the giver

Employees and High-end Gift Giving

For employees who said they felt no reaction to the giver, most admitted to being unengaged or harboring negative feelings towards the giving company prior to the gift. Keep in mind, while gifts can be a very effective motivator for employees, if they already are unengaged, even a high-end gift will not change how they feel.

Customer Appreciation

When a gift was used to thank a customer for their business, it generally seemed well received and appreciated. Many said they would do business with that company again.

When compared to the receptiveness rates of receiving promotional items at lower price points, bigger (ticket) did appear to be better.

27% were significantly more receptive to the company with a high end giveaway than those receiving a lesser item, which averaged about 10% for items under $24.99 in perceived value.

For the 44% that were somewhat more receptive at having received a high end gift, only 32% felt that way when receiving a perceived lower value gift.
