Here’s an easy content creation tip if you’re trying to improve your search rankings through content. You do this by creating content that appeals to your audience and helps answer questions they may have about your product or service.
But how do you know what they’ll like and what they’re wondering? The way to do this is easier than you might think. There are several ways to get in the mind of your ideal customer but we’ll focus on Quora today.
How to Create Good Content Using Quora
Since “good” content is in the eyes of your audience, it’s important to know who they are first and foremost. Once you flesh that out from a demographic perspective you need to figure out where they are. Quora was initially most popular with 25-40 year-old males but the demographics are changing and most age groups are represented.
Using Quora to Find Questions
Let’s say you own a gluten-free bakery and want to know what your audience is interested in. Visit Quora.com and search under gluten free. They have an entire gluten-free topic there. Some of the top questions at this writing are:
- Is chocolate gluten free?
- Is gluten free a fad?
- Is wine gluten free?
There are a couple of ways to look at these questions and your content. The first is that you become a resource on the topic of gluten-free, regardless of whether your bakery sells wine or not. You become the gluten-free guru. This takes a lot of work, but ultimately your page becomes a resource and ranks well because of it. You could eventually be the face of the gluten-free movement with all of your helpful content.
But that idea isn’t for everybody. Sometimes you just want a successful bakery. If that’s the case, I would create content on the first question and perhaps the second. Leave the third for someone else.
After the content is created and posted, you could go back to that thread on Quora and answer the question briefly and then link to your post. Unlike other communities where people are socializing and getting to know one another, people are looking for answers on Quora. While no one wants to be sold to, a hyperlink to a longer, more informative article is very fitting.
Know that this sort of ranking success from content creation is not something that happens with the first article published and one share. It takes months of content creation and shares to start moving the dial, but once Google and the other search engines see your site as one of value, you’ll start to see your rankings improve.
So why do we write so many topics on things other than promotional products? Because promotional marketing is part of a larger marketing strategy. It is not an island. You can’t buy a pen and expect it to triple your sales without doing anything else. We like business owners to understand all aspects of marketing so they can have greater success. A good promotional marketing campaign must fit the other aspects of your marketing.
