In keeping with the “one holiday after another” jag we’ve been on, I’ve been thinking about Valentine’s Day. It will be here in a little over a month and it got me thinking about customer appreciation.
Showing your appreciation is critical to being remembered. If you make someone feel good about what they’re getting from you, they’re likely to return. If the purchase experience with you is the same as at another store, there’s a good chance if the other business has lower prices, you’ve just lost a customer. Here are a few ways to show the love:
5 Ways to Show the Customer Love
Do something unexpected
Which is more special, getting flowers on Valentine’s Day or getting them for no reason on a random Tuesday? It’s the unexpected delight, right? It almost doesn’t matter what it is. It’s the delight of someone thinking of you. Surprise your customers with random thank you gifts or promotions.
Add something special
If you sell a product, add a little (branded) something special into every package. It could be an inspirational quote written on beautiful paper, some nice tissue paper, a sachet, a fortune, a pen, or some other way of letting your customer know they are important to you.
Host a “how-to”
Host a how-to clinic or create a series of videos that helps people understand how to better use your product or service better.
Share the love
Whenever possible, become a patron of your customers. This could mean buying something from them but it could also mean supporting them on social media, reviewing them, or sharing their information. Do it consistently and they’ll notice and appreciate it.
Express your appreciation
Finally, tell them how much their business means to you. Never make them feel like they could leave tomorrow and you wouldn’t notice. Provide excellent customer service, listen, and show appreciation.
Someone can always beat you on price but they shouldn’t be able to beat you on how you make your customers feel.
